Growing up in Zambia, we always had tea. Tea at breakfast dunking bread with butter and jam. The tea was masala chai made in a pot over a stove with loose leaf always black tea. My mum would add fresh ginger or freshly picked mint from the garden, always a sweet tea.

When we sit down and relax, with a cup of hot tea to cherish alongside, we must not forget the long-embarking journey undertaken for the quality tea leaves to be cultivated in the Mountains, then reaching our way through many different means. Tea consumption in the company of guests and friends is a century-old tradition in most of the countries; when we talk about serving tea, it usually is when someone has arrived on the doors, or simply given also as a welcome-service after a long and tiring journey.

One of the most spellbinding countries in Asia, Myanmar is famous for greatest archaeological sites, gravity-defying holy rocks, the world’s largest reclining Buddha, hot air balloon rides, and what not. The things that we do weave together into the story of my life. One of the reasons I started Hummingbird Tea Room was to give people a space to share their stories and form new connections. All around the world, different cultures use tea and snacks as a way to connect with one another.
